Distractions are everywhere. Avoiding distractions is a key practice to becoming productive than others, and also it increases awareness about the surroundings. In simple words, by avoiding or eliminating the distractions, you will become more productive and invincible. Distractions are out there where you look up.

In this fast pace and on tune notification world, we get distracted so easily, and in common sense realm, it is hard to eliminate distractions, we just can avoid for the short-term period. Every single person who works for a living is getting interrupted 50 to 60 times per day, and about 80% of these interruptions are unimportant. There are some normal and some are the uncanny tactics that we will cover in just a while, but first, you should understand what is distractions and what types are there.

Distraction is something that turns your attention away from something you want to concentrate on and makes you a wanderer.

In other words, distractions are the noise of a peaceful mind. Distraction is within you, known as an internal distraction, and the distractions that distract you externally called external distractions. We will roast it in just a while.

According to psychology-Wikia, distraction is the diverting of the attention of an individual or group from the chosen object of attention onto the source of distraction.

Distraction is caused by one of the following: lack of ability to pay attention; lack of interest in the subject of attention; greater interest in something rather than the subject of attention. Distractions hijacked your mind and stair you one single point to another point; and so, distraction renamed hijacked by psychology today.

What types of distractions out there ??

Distraction has two types: Internal distractions and External distractions. Both have their own problems and own solutions. Internal distractions (Opposite of Internal L.O.C) are not easy to avoid because it connects with our sub-conscious mind. Distractions are everywhere as we all know, and it’s hard to eliminate from roots but you can easily avoid them. Let’s drill down both distractions.

1. Internal Distractions

Internal distraction is one type of distraction.

Causes that occurred by the internal factors of the human body like emotions, sub-conscious garbage, and malicious thoughts called internal distractions. It is easy to understand but it’s hard to eliminate from its roots. As a Chinese proverb, cut up grass by the root, and it will sprout no more.

Here is the list of Internal Distractions;

  • Boredom/Dislike of the subject
  • Anxiety caused by the subject
  • Personal Problems and worriers
  • Daydreaming
  • The complexity of the subject
  • Negative reactions to Noise or Environment
  • Fatigue
  • Emotions

2. External Distractions

External distractions

Causes that occurred by the surrounding that covers you like the walls, lighting, companions, and your desk. These all are primary factors that distract you from your most important work, called External distractions. We can easily avoid or conquer them

External distractions are easy to eliminate. External distractions are not much more dangerous than internal distractions, but sometimes, external distractions are more dangerous; when we are crossing the road, and suddenly, notification bumps up. It is about life and death. When we are doing our most prioritize task and suddenly one worst thought pops up, and you lost in the delusion. You just need to tell your monkey mind what is most important to you at that time. So, here 12 Tactics that help you a lot.


1. What distract you !!

As we all know there are two types of distraction: Internal distractions and External distractions. First thing first, you should understand what distract you. Is it your mobile? Is it your thought about your ex-girlfriend? Is it lighting of the workplace? Is it anxiety? You should tell yourself what distracts you.

There are lots of causes of distractions from internal to external, boredom to the temperature of the room. Let’s drill down the most common internal and external causes with its solutions.

  • Boredom – Find reasons which satisfy you for taking your work and wither boredom.
  • Personal problems and Worries – Talk with your friends or companions.
  • Complexity of task – Break the task into small pieces [Kaizen Way]
  • Temperature – Dress appropriately and layer up it.

3. Always stay Offline

Always stay offline to not distract.

Shut off your wi-fi connection, turn on airplane mode, and mute all notifications. In short, make it difficult to waste your time online. Stay focused, Anti-social, Leech block, and Cold turkey are all blockers that you can install if you must use the Internet to complete your work. These will block specific websites or your whole connection for certain periods of time.

Tend to leave your charger at home, turning off/disabling your airport, or working in a public setting (where others can see your screen).

Turn off your phone and get outside, and move on.

4. Sleep Enough

From Millionaires to College students, you should sleep enough to catch your goals. Distractions come to those who don’t sleep enough. It’s recommended to get at least 7-8 hours each night. In addition to helping you focus; sleep helps protect and strengthen your memory. Research shows that sleeping after learning can help with memory retention.

It’s important to get seven to eight hours of sleep so that you can experience all the sleep stages, and also well sleep contributes various things including creative thinking, long-term memory, and memory processing.
